  Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is energy that occurs naturally and continuously in the environment such as wind, solar, biomass, waves, geothermal, hydrogen and hydroelectric. Therefore, these forms of energies are inexhaustible.

Landfill gas (LFG), a form of biomass, is a result of decomposition of wastes at dumpsites or landfills. LFG contains a high percentage of methane gas (CH4), which is flammable and explosive and carbon dioxide (CO2). Methane is also a harmful greenhouse gas (GHG) that contributes to global warming.

Due to the high content of methane in LFG, the gas can be extracted, processed and used as fuel for the production of power.

Alternatively, the LFG can be collected and flared using a flaring system, which converts those GHG into more environmentally-friendly components.

Power Generation

Dumpsites and landfills across the country are major sources of methane gas (CH4) (a component of LFG) emissions. Instead of letting this valuable resource escape into the environment, it can be extracted, processed and used as fuel for the production of power.

In doing so, it helps to reduce risks associated with GHG emissions, including the effects of global warming.

LFG is extracted using a series of collection wells and a blower system. The collected gas is then processed and used to generate power.

At CyEn we are able to assess, propose, design, construct, operate and maintain the appropriate power generating system to meet our clients’ needs.

Flares

Alternative to the power generation, the LFG can be extracted using a series of collection wells and a blower system, burnt at very high temperatures so that it will not harm the environment.

At CyEn, we are able to assess, propose, design, construct, operate and maintain the appropriate flare system meeting our clients' needs. Technologies available include concealed and open types flares.

Activities

At CyEn we are able to link the projects that we are involved with the various activities such as:

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
A mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol (UNFCCC), enforced on 16th February 2005, which provides incentives in the form of Certified Carbon Credits to reduce environmentally harmful greenhouse gases (GHG).
Small Renewable Energy Program (SREP)
A program under the Energy Commission, Malaysia, which encourages the use of renewable energy as fuel to generate electricity. Special electricity tariffs are given by national electricity company to purchase the electricity produced.
